The New School Year is Almost Here!
While we don’t exactly want to be the ones to bring up the elephant in the room, it’s almost August and August means back to school. Here are some quick links and info for parents who are preparing for the school year ahead.
If this is going to be your first winter here in Alaska, Winter quickly approaches after school starts. Did you know children still play outside all winter long here? The general rule of thumb is to keep students inside if the temperature is reaching -10 degrees. You heard us right, children still go outside to play if it is -5 degrees outside. This also means that children will need to be responsible for bringing all of their winter gear to and from school everyday. Be prepared for lost hats and gloves! A few backup pairs is a very good idea! Amazon has these awesome glove clips to help keep the gloves with your child's coat!
If your children aren’t used to getting all their winter gear on alone, it may be a good idea to practice! It can be tricky to get your coat zipped with mittens on, and your child's teacher will thank you!
Many military families have unique situations, luckily there is a support program in place if you need assistance or direction when it comes to your family’s educational needs. Things can get complicated when moving mid-school year or from an OCONUS location. The school liaison services office is located on the Richardson side of base can assist you with so much! For more information about their services here is their website.
