Finding your dream home but in your budget
A view of the sunset from your bedroom window would be ideal, but is it a deal breaker? Time is not always on your side when planning a military move so here are some tips on how to find a home that is budget-friendly and functional for your family’s needs.
A lot of times when buyers are first looking at a home, the home is filled with other people’s items. It can be hard to envision how you can make it your own and how the space can work for you. Before you start looking, think about what kind of spaces are non-negotiables for you. That list looks different for every family but many of them include: an office space, open concept kitchen, fenced yard, walk-in closets. It could be helpful to list out each of the things that are of value to you and then rate those on a 1,2,3 system with 1 being non-negotiable and 3 being “it would be nice.”
After you find what your non-negotiables are it will be easier to envision living in a space that includes many of those needs or wants. If the aesthetics of the home aren’t your style, there are many easy ways to fix up a space to make more you. Flooring is one of the number one ways to change up an entire space. Full remodels aren’t always the answer, especially when we are budget focused and often they don’t have a full return on cost VS resale values.
Speaking of resele, the overarching theme that can help you make a real decision on a home is the resale value. Is the home in a desirable location? Does it have features that will resell well in the future? It will always bid you well to have a home that will do well in the real estate market in the future.
Having a Realtor that knows the local area and market, will give you the upper hand every time! Owning a home is an investment into your future and your future-self will thank you!
